Go beyond Camtasia's manual tracks and Audiate

Instead of round-tripping between Camtasia Editor and Audiate, prompt ChatCut to cut retakes, style captions, generate graphics and dub videos on one timeline.

Cut retakes without round-tripping to Audiate

Camtasia splits transcript edits into paid Audiate; ChatCut slices pauses and retakes directly on your timeline in one pass.

Try Speech Cleanup

Export animated captions without a watermark

Camtasia watermarks dynamic captions on Free and Starter; ChatCut styles bold kinetic captions and exports clean 4K on desktop.

Try Add captions

Prompt 3D titles and animated counters

Instead of dragging static callouts or Lottie files in Camtasia, prompt editable 3D titles, counters and floating icons.

Try Editorial Explainer

Localize training and product videos fast

Camtasia locks script translation and audio dubbing behind Pro; ChatCut localizes videos into multiple languages with synced captions.

Try Video Translation

Drive your timeline from Claude or Codex

Camtasia's ChatGPT plugin only turns uploaded screenshots into Camtasia Online storyboards, while ChatCut Desktop lets Claude Code and Codex edit your local timeline via MCP.

ChatCut vs Camtasia FAQ

Is ChatCut a good Camtasia alternative?

Yes, if you want an AI agent—or Claude Code and Codex—to cut retakes, generate editable motion graphics and export watermark-free 4K on desktop for free. If your workflow depends on post-recording cursor path editing, Snagit step captures or SCORM quizzes for an LMS, Camtasia is still the better fit.

Does Camtasia's free version export without a watermark?

Camtasia Online records and exports 1080p browser videos for free, but the desktop Camtasia Editor adds a watermark on both the Free version and the paid Starter plan. Watermark-free desktop exports require Camtasia Essentials, Create or Pro, whereas ChatCut Desktop exports watermark-free up to 4K 60 fps on the Free plan.

Does Camtasia work with Claude Code, Codex or MCP?

Camtasia offers a ChatGPT plugin that turns uploaded screenshots into storyboards for Camtasia Online, but it does not provide an MCP server or connect to Claude Code and Codex for timeline editing. ChatCut Desktop opens your local timeline to Claude Code, Codex and any MCP-compatible agent.

Is ChatCut free?

Yes. The Free plan includes the editor, uploads, transcription, captions and standard exports. AI generation and the built-in agent use credits, and AI video generation needs a paid plan.

Can I use ChatCut from Claude Code or Codex?

Yes. The ChatCut plugin runs in Claude Code and the Codex app, and ChatCut Desktop connects Claude Code, Codex and other agents through a local MCP server. Your agent edits the real timeline, which you can keep adjusting by hand.

How the plugin works
Can I finish a ChatCut edit in another editor?

Yes. ChatCut exports XML timelines for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, and ChatCut Desktop also exports editable CapCut drafts. It does not export Final Cut Pro XML (FCPXML).
