ChatCut vs Riverside FAQ

Is ChatCut a Riverside alternative?

Yes, for editing recorded interviews and turning them into finished videos. Both offer AI editing agents, captions, clips and generated visuals; ChatCut also opens its desktop timeline and editable motion graphics to Claude Code and Codex for free, with free desktop 4K and Premiere or DaVinci XML export. Riverside is a strong fit when remote guest recording, live streaming and podcast hosting are central to your workflow.

Can I keep recording my podcast in Riverside?

Yes. Download your recorded video and audio files from Riverside, then import them into ChatCut for editing, captions and graphics. This uses your media files rather than transferring the Riverside editor project.

Is ChatCut free?

Yes. The Free plan includes the editor, uploads, transcription, captions and standard exports. AI generation and the built-in agent use credits, and AI video generation needs a paid plan.

Can I use ChatCut from Claude Code or Codex?

Yes. The ChatCut plugin runs in Claude Code and the Codex app, and ChatCut Desktop connects Claude Code, Codex and other agents through a local MCP server. Your agent edits the real timeline, which you can keep adjusting by hand.

How the plugin works
Can I finish a ChatCut edit in another editor?

Yes. ChatCut exports XML timelines for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, and ChatCut Desktop also exports editable CapCut drafts. It does not export Final Cut Pro XML (FCPXML).
