Yes, if you edit on a computer and want an AI agent—or Claude Code and Codex—to cut, caption and build editable motion graphics on a timeline, with 4K export, voice cleanup and retouch free on desktop instead of gated behind CapCut Pro. If you mostly edit on your phone with trending templates, CapCut is still the better fit.

Can ChatCut open or export CapCut projects?

ChatCut Desktop exports editable CapCut and Jianying drafts, so you can start an edit in ChatCut and finish it in CapCut. It does not import CapCut project files.

No. ChatCut runs on Mac, Windows and in a desktop browser. CapCut has iOS and Android apps.

Is ChatCut free?

Yes. The Free plan includes the editor, uploads, transcription, captions and standard exports. AI generation and the built-in agent use credits, and AI video generation needs a paid plan.

Yes. The ChatCut plugin runs in Claude Code and the Codex app, and ChatCut Desktop connects Claude Code, Codex and other agents through a local MCP server. Your agent edits the real timeline, which you can keep adjusting by hand.

How the plugin works

Can I finish a ChatCut edit in another editor?

Yes. ChatCut exports XML timelines for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, and ChatCut Desktop also exports editable CapCut drafts. It does not export Final Cut Pro XML (FCPXML).
