Go beyond Captions' in-app Chat to Edit

Where Captions keeps Chat to Edit inside its Max plan, ChatCut edits clips, captions and graphics on a timeline you can also hand off to Premiere, DaVinci or CapCut.

Clear fillers, retakes and room noise

Tag um, uh and repeated takes on the transcript, clean up background noise free on desktop, and tighten your creator update.

Try Speech Cleanup

Go beyond Captions' single free template

Instead of stopping at one free Eclipse preset, upgrade plain subtitles into karaoke highlights and depth-masked titles from ChatCut's included library.

Try Add captions

Pull visual B-roll and explainer graphics

Search and layer relevant imagery behind your speaker, then add editable callouts and diagrams that stay adjustable on the timeline.

Try Editorial Explainer

Timed bilingual subtitles and dubbed versions

Pair bilingual subtitles on screen or dub speech into new languages while keeping your product terms and timeline cuts intact.

Try Video Translation

Drive your timeline from Claude or Codex

Captions offers an HTTP API for generating captions and clips, while ChatCut Desktop connects Claude Code and Codex directly to your local timeline via MCP.

Claude Code

Polish a creator update

Read chatcut.io/desktop to install ChatCut, then turn my talking-head takes into a 45-second creator update, remove repeated lines and filler words, and add captions using my brand colors.

Codex

Localize a product review

Read chatcut.io/desktop to install ChatCut, then make a Spanish version of my product review with dubbed speech and matching captions, keeping product names unchanged and adding an editable closing callout.

How the Agent Plugin works

Reusable workflows beyond saved caption styles

ChatCut vs Captions FAQ

Is ChatCut a Captions alternative?

Yes, especially if you want to run your creator workflow through Claude Code or Codex, reuse full editing skills across episodes, or hand off timelines to Premiere, DaVinci or CapCut. Both tools support prompt-based editing, captions, dubbing and AI-generated footage, while ChatCut Desktop includes free voice noise cleanup and caption style templates; Captions also offers native phone apps.

Can Captions also edit videos using prompts?

Yes. Captions supports Chat to Edit on iOS and web (included on its Max plan and above), including multi-step requests, and its web editor can create custom motion graphics. ChatCut lets you edit with its built-in agent or connect Claude Code, Codex and any MCP agent to the desktop editor via local MCP.

Is ChatCut free?

Yes. The Free plan includes the editor, uploads, transcription, captions and standard exports. AI generation and the built-in agent use credits, and AI video generation needs a paid plan.

Can I use ChatCut from Claude Code or Codex?

Yes. The ChatCut plugin runs in Claude Code and the Codex app, and ChatCut Desktop connects Claude Code, Codex and other agents through a local MCP server. Your agent edits the real timeline, which you can keep adjusting by hand.

How the plugin works
Can I finish a ChatCut edit in another editor?

Yes. ChatCut exports XML timelines for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, and ChatCut Desktop also exports editable CapCut drafts. It does not export Final Cut Pro XML (FCPXML).
